Super Messy Kitchen

Wow!  That’s some messy kitchen there.  Egg shells, garbage, rotten food, & filth.  Think it might smell in there a bit?

[Thanks to Craig at for the photo!]

How can people live there? I think the previous owners have mental illnesses.

oh god all these messy house pictures just make me think of all the rats and roaches that are surely crawling around. how anyone can go inside and even take these pictures is beyond me.

That is horrible! I don’t understand how anyone could live like that! I can stand a little bit of clutter but come on, that is just gross! YUCK!

This is not a messy house. This is a compost pile. I agree with the post by Tina, this is a sign of mental illness, not of a bad housekeeper (which I am). A messy house is disarrayed, and dirty dishes on the counter, junk on the table. If your house is filled with trash or rotting food, if your home has narrow pathway due to mountains of “stuff”, that is not a messy housekeeper. That is a condition that needs treatment.

There must be a very tragic story behind how it got that way.

I work as a cleaner and I once cleaned a kitchen like this. I filled 36 rubbish sacks. It was 2 students who had set chores when they moved in and one hadn’t taken the rubbish out so the other stopped doing the dishes. It had gone on tit for tat for 6 months until there was just a narrow path to the sink. It was really satisfying to see the results but I did worry about rats…
