Entries from January 2010
Photos sent in from one of our viewers of a friend’s grandparents’ home in Atlantic City, New Jersey, starting with a very dirty kitchen.

Another view of the kitchen.

Check out the ceiling in the bathroom. To bad this home was neglected. Kinda interesting that subway tile and pedestal sinks came back in fashion in the 2000s.

The French door glass was covered up. Looks like wallpaper on the ceiling, and it’s coming down.

In the next room, the walls are falling apart exposing the original laths.

More ceiling damage in the dining room. The owner reportedly saved everything. At one point, you could barely walk through the dining room.

More unfortunate ceiling damage in the living room. Just look how cool this house really is; too bad it was neglected. By the way, that turquoise blue paint color is hot, hot, hot in 2010.

The oak flooring with mahogany inlays is damaged in the living room.

Antique door bell system. Front door, back door, and chambers A-I. Pretty cool.

There are some very neat architectural details in this home. I hope it gets restored to its original glory.

In real estate they say timing is everything. It sure is at this Oklahoma City, Oklahoma home. Talk about bad timing. 1) Why is the TV on anyway? 2) Do buyers receive a subliminal message that this home has a rat problem? 3) Couldn’t the seller have waited another 10 seconds for a different commercial? 4) Why did the seller have to publish this photo? Good grief.

Now that Oklahoma City is snowed in, maybe these five home sellers can spend their time straightening out their kitchens.

Counter attack.

It’s time to wash that hand towel. Yuk.

Fancy kitchen; it has two exhaust hoods.

Can’t read those signs; it’s ‘open something storage.’

This Colorado Springs home has lots of possibilities. It could be a dungeon for serial killers. Just watch out for the moths and bottles of lotion. Has anyone seen my dog Precious?

Or it could be an oil change shop.

If you love dream catchers, you’re sure to love this Colorado Springs home. There’s a dream catcher in the bedroom.

A dream catcher in the living room.

Two dream catchers in another bedroom.

Rats, there’s no dream catcher in this bedroom.

Cluttered kitchen with an unusual choice in cabinet paint color.

A lot of refrigerator magnets. A laundry basket on a dog cage.

Let’s make it difficult for buyers to see the house, okay?
The main photo for a Colorado Springs home.

A night shot for a Phoenix hillside home. You can see the Jack In the Box restaurant sign.

The prize for darkest real estate photo ever goes to this one for an Oakland, California home. What was the seller thinking? Even worse, this was the only photo for the house.

Home sellers aren’t the only ones trying to lure in buyers. Hotels do too. Carefully cropped photos to hide reality, distorted angles to make pools look bigger, and other gimmicks are sometimes used by hotels to entice guests.
Bing.com presents a slide show of such hotels with the real photos and commentary.

Scott Brown was recently elected as the newest U.S. Senator from Massachusetts. He will be moving to Washington, D.C. soon and will need somewhere to live. Let’s see if we can find him a home, starting with this DC winner.
This messy kitchen should do the trick. Senator Brown will likely have to put up with trash talk, and he’ll need notes to remind him of his daily tasks. He can use the bleach to counteract dirty politics.

He can watch the health care bill discussion live on CSPAN from this cluttered bedroom. Oh, wait, there are no broadcasts of the health care bill. Oops. It was a transparent mistake.

A home’s exterior leaves an impression. Sen. Brown’s next home will reflect the brick walls he’ll face in the Senate.

They had a wild party last night; a drunk guest took the lamp shade.

Senator Brown will need to hire staff members. Perhaps he could hire this man and buy his house too?

The living room looks fairly organized.
