Fairbank, Arizona

December 22nd, 2009 · 6 Comments

Sorry for the lack of recent posts.  I was overdue for a vacation & just spent a long weekend in southeastern Arizona in Bisbee (old mining town), Tombstone (site of the OK Corral), Karchner Caverns (living cave system), the Whitewater Draw Wildlife Refuge (with 1,000s of sandhill cranes flying around & roosting), Eloy (where I did indoor skydiving at SkyVenture AZ [warning: website has loud music]), the San Pedro River, and Fairbank, Arizona (a ghost town).

Here is the only remaining house left standing in Fairbank, Arizona.

The horse stable doesn’t look very stable today.

There is a school house too & it’s in good shape.  There’s also a commerce building that’s being renovated.  No birds in Fairbank this time of year, but it’s very popular with migrating birds & birdwatchers in the Spring.  I saw a 2.5′ rattlesnake on the state highway near Fairbank (but it was road kill).

That house looks pretty good, maybe better than most you post.
Bisbee is creeeeeepppy! I hated it there. Too bad all the hippees ruined the town with purple paint and bad attitudes.

These buildings are very rustic (and rusty) and look good for their probable age–so unlike the dumpy dives built just a few years ago which often grace this blog!

Fairbank is indeed an interesting little gem of SE Arizona, and not many know about it. They’ve been working on the big old building near the road for many years now. The hike up to the graveyard is interesting, but watch out for rattlesnakes.
