I love the idea behind the site. As a former RE sales agent, I know where you’re coming from. My only objection is the nasty comments as they pertain to one’s home. I would be absolutely MORTIFIED to find pix of my beloved abode being denegrated through your site. Also, “ugly” is subjective. I feel that if a house is clean, neat, tidy and well cared for, why run it down?? Perhaps “dated” or “taste specific”, but “UGLY”? Why look at an “ugly couch” when you’re supposed to be looking at the HOUSE. Seems strangely low-brow to me. Sorry.

Greg, all I can say is that from my experience observing & listening to buyers is that they create mental images of houses to remember them later. So the question when selling is, do you want buyers to say you have the “awesome remodeled home” or the “super clean home” or the “house with the ugly couch” or “the dirty toilet house”, etc.?

Leif~ Gotta agree with you! I found your site few years back when we decided to sell our place, I was looking for ideals on making our place more salable! ….For fun I type in ugly houses to my surprised found this place~” LOVE IT”! I also learn to remove personal things when showing our home!….What I leaned was this…..You’re selling the house, not your stuff or your ideals on decorations . You want the buyers to see their stuff in there!…Once I removed and I mean removed things like tooth brushes, family pics and rid the kitchen of things like canisters, etc from counter tops went neutral colors throughout, the house sold….To this day I’ve taken your rule to heart only two appliances on kitchen counter, I hate clutter!
