This is a new one: security bars inside the house! Keeps kids and burglars from crawling over the walls.

As a bonus, here’s the kitchen. This is what they’re protecting??

If they wanted the place to look like a bordello in New Orleans, they have succeeded.

Is that aluminum foil on their range hood?

I have seen the decorative iron used to fill the spaces above partial walls. I don’t care for it but it beats partial walls. The tops always catch junk. That kitchen is just bad. Is that water damage above the window?

I owned a house with a loft that had a partial wall. Fearing that our toddlers would fall like sacks of potatoes to the floor below, I put up security bars like those pictured, but in stylish black. It really wasn’t any better looking though, and the real estate agent had us take them down and lock the loft.

Hm. Well? If there aren’t many windows in the house, or if there is a room in the middle of the house without windows, then partial walls allow light and airflow while still offering a feeling of privacy or separation from room to room as the “public” spaces open into each other. The ironwork is not my cup of tea, but something like that or fretwork or lattice or something of the sort allows the idea of a wall to be continued up to the ceiling while still permitting air flow and light. Maybe it wouldn’t look so bad if the place weren’t so dirty and run down looking.
