One Item Ruins the Photo

January 6th, 2011 · 6 Comments

The brain needs only one second to form an image and impression from a photo.  If the eye focuses on the wrong item, the mental image is set on that one item.

Do you notice the bedroom or the NASCAR blanket?

Do you notice the big room or the red rug?

Do you notice the vaulted ceiling and stacked stone fireplace or the big elk head?

Do you notice the cozy room or the plastic orange tree?

What bedroom? All that shows is the corner.
There’s 2 red rugs and that photo is weird.
Yuck, a dusty buggy head in a small room. Don’t forget that saltillo tile floor!
Cozy room? How kind you are. Tiny fits better.
What I really noticed is that these photos do more harm than good for the sellers.

y’know, the elk head thing can work—but only if you have a lodge-themed room to begin with… and that ain’t it!

oh, and actually TWO things ruined the first photo. I noticed the pink walls even more than the blanket.

Wow. That elk head is *massive*. It completely dominates and overwhelms the room. It’s such a nice room and then–bam!–giant elk head!! Crazy.
