Hopefully these monstrosities will be gone soon. What a waste of wall space. Would take the Adobe if I could put it somewhere close to the patio and pool. It is a shame because a couple of these are high dollar installations.

TV-the focal point of so many people’s lives..

These are awful! Why would anyone want these ugly dust-catchers?

These made me chuckle. I still have my armoire - I can’t GIVE that monster away!
The Symmetric would look cool with mid-century modern decor.

Time to tear down all of these suckers!
Armoires aren’t so bad, at least they go with your furniture.

A shrine to the TV.
What will our future ancestors think of these ‘alters’ when they dig our houses up in 2,000 years from now?

The “entire wall” entertainment centers scare me. How much “entertainment” can one family have?

It looks like they evolved out of the adobe-type style of a lot of Southwestern architecture. I can’t imagine seeing something like this in a Cape Cod or Colonial Revival.

I like the two woody ones….

It’s not so much that they’re ‘altars,’ so so much as they’re functionally obsolete (so are TV ‘armoires’ but at least they might be turned back into real armoires). They don’t work with modern TVs which are thin and wall-mounted. And the last thing any electronics need is more heat trapped around them! The problem is- if you buy a house with this sort of thing going on, you have to pull out a sledgehammer and renovate the room before you can even set up your sofa and relax with a television program.

These are usually not load-bearing, correct? If true, I’ll greatly enjoy taking a sledgehammer to the unit. Hey, think of the extra floor space you’ll gain!
