One of our loyal readers left a comment yesterday about the ugly John F. Long kitchen cabinets: there is an ugly band of wood above the cabinets, a soffit. What to do? Well…we have a solution: cover it up with wallpaper!!

Doesn’t the wallpaper brighten up the kitchen?

Their bathroom needs a lot of help. Help only a sledgehammer can deliver.

The bedrooms don’t look any better.

Chuckle, chuckle Well the wallpaper border is “better” than feeling like that heavy board is going to fall on your head when you do dishes. How about removing the doors above the sink and just using shelves with some attractive kitchen stuff on them? That would help lighten up the space.

Um, yeah…….I can see how covering a cabinet soffit with gaudy wallpaper will draw the eyes’ focus away in that kitchen…..DUH! About these John Long Homes: they all seem to be in such bad shape - were they really built on the cheap or did they have a habit of attracting homeowners who don’t believe in maintenance and upkeep?

that looks worse than ever. And the border isn’t even wide enough to cover the whole thing!
But actually, it might look better if the soffit went all the way around the whole room. My kitchen has that, and it really ties the whole room together.

I know a guy named John F. Long here in Michigan. He built our garage. Hmm, I wonder….He’s about 50 years old. By the way your comments are so funny! I am enjoying this website as I enjoy home interior stuff.

Those homes appear to have been built cheaply. Are they from the late 60s or early 70s? If so, they are definitely built badly. They might have aluminum wiring, too.
