Let’s look at five homemade entertainment centers and/or media niches.
The Laugh In Wall. Ruth Buzzi is in the upper left opening. Goldie Hawn in the lower right.

The Clam Shell.

The Dominator. Makes the fireplace look puny.

The Fireplace Surround. Just what electronic equipment needs: more heat.

The Plug & Play.

People really need to THINK before they create permanent structures like this in their homes. Today’s way-cool treatment can quickly turn into “WTF were they thinking?”

I don’t hate all media niches. But the first one was a waste of custom work, unbelievably ugly and puzzling.
The clam shell has a pleasing SW style. I’d paint it adobe color.
IMO the fireplace surround has a cool retro style look to it. Just don’t use the fireplace and set a mid-sized flat screen in front of it.

The first one is obviously built specifically for particular electronic devices. And it does look strange on it’s own, but I’m sure it looked nice with everything set up.
The 4th one doesn’t even look like it was meant for an entertainment centre, just regular built-in shelves. Unless they covered up the fireplace with a TV.
The last one is actually very clever, the way they wired it up. Let’s just hope the new owners have a 27″ CRT TV lol
