Watertown, New York is an interesting place. They must have had a falling out or some controversy or snobby “I’m a town, you’re a city” issue, because half of the addresses are either Watertown-City or Watertown-Town. Can’t they all just get along as one?
Here’s a room from a Watertown-something home. It serves many purposes. It’s a laundry room. It’s a bathroom. It’s a kitchen. You can cook a burger while going to the bathroom and doing laundry! Think of all the time you’ll save.

And then we found another Watertown-something home with a toilet next to the washer/dryer. It’s the cause of the name controversy! The Watertown-Town people call it a baundry (bathroom-laundry) and the Watertown-City folk call it a lathroom (laundry-bathroom).

Another instance of plumbing dictating the placement of “appliances”. #1 looks like they removed a shower or tub to place the washer/dryer there. Reminds me of older trailers with the laundry built into the bathroom.

Frank Sinatra said it best: “Old Watertown, nothin’ much happenin’ down on Main, ‘cept a little rain. Old Watertown, everyone knows the perfect crime, killin’ time; and no one’s goin’ anywhere, livin’s much too easy there…” Presumably because all your livin’ can be done in one room.

wonderful privacy it’s got to feel like you’re sitting in the hallway!

We did a rehab of a newer home for new homeowner’s in Tucson a few years ago. The original w/d location was in the garage. The new homeowners wanted it in the master bathroom. Had to jack hammer the slab, gut a very nice full bath, turn it into a 1/2 bath (shower stall), and remove a linen closet. I hated that job.

I’ve often thought of installing a urinal near my bed, oddly enough.

Having the washing machine in the kitchen is VERY convenient, so is having it in the bathroom.
Having the toilet in the kitchen, not so much…
