I’ve been visiting the site for a few months now and I’ve just got to ask: is it the law in Phoenix that every house have a white fan on a stand?

    Yes, I believe they did…… uber-tacky.

LOL. I guess it happens a lot out here. Our low humidity (down to 5% in June) is perfect for fans. They keep you cool(er).

..and Heather…Yes, it is a “law”…lol. Law of physics, sort of, anyway (sometimes we even have other colors of fans :-) ). Actually, because it is so hot here for so much of the year, yes, it does make a noticeable difference in the air conditioning’s overall “effect” when the air is moving (I’ve heard it can make up to a 9-degree difference, which amounts to less $ on your electric bill–:-)) Every little bit helps in this economy.

LMAO! That looks like my parent’s old waterbed headboard!

I have thirteen fans in my apartment in Taipei. Even when the air conditioning is on, fans help distribute the cool air. Also, exhaust fans in the windows eliminate hot air, as well as steam, cooking odors, etc.

I live in the Southeast, so I know how useful fans are. But it seems to me that if they are a permanent and vital component of your house you would want to use less tacky looking versions. Down here most people use ceiling fans.

We use both ceiling fans and portables. The beauty of the portable is it can go into storage during the winter and not have to be seen. Also, you can move them around to the room you are in at the time. Also, they are $20 at Walmart and ceiling fans a bit more, plus installation.

In Phoenix, as well as in Tucson, having portable fans gets rid of the cooking meth lab odor too! ;)
