Sorry, but those ugly John F. Long builder cabinets keep showing up.

Even clutter doesn’t make them look better.

Sigh.

This home used them in the office.

Uh, no thanks.

The ones in the first photo are actually pretty cool, although the appliances look pretty mismatched.

What ugly cabinets, and a grease/dust/spills cleaning nightmare. It appears that people just get overwhelmed and give up, which is why these kitchens always look so messy and cluttered. I’ll never understand why JFL picked that style, and then insisted on installing them in every house he built. This is probably one of the reasons why people will always ridicule/loathe 1970s “style”.

That exposed block reminded me of my Grandparents’ house. That gray slump block with the black mortar was considered classy modern. Grandpa custom bulit the house, I wonder if he got the idea from John F. Long, because his block company did later supply block to some of the John F. Long homes. Thank goodness they didn’t use those cabinets in their house.

Why on earth don’t people just have these ugly cabinets refaced if they can’t (or don’t want to) take on the expense of totally new cabinets? Lord knows I would!

I must disagree with the majority, as I don’t find the JFL cabinets that bad…especially if they’re unpainted and in good condition. But I do agree that all those nooks and grooves would make them difficult ot clean.
That said, I really like the last two photos. The slump block and wood paneling are both unpainted.

It is absolutely IMPOSSIBLE for me to see these cabinets and NOT think of Hershey bars…lol…especially when they’re left dark brown. Now, I love Hershey bars, just not copied, enlarged, and used as a cabinet design. These JFL kitchens are so depressing, with the sink always facing a wall. Why would they be built this way? Just wondering.

I have NEVER seen these cabinets before. Are they something just in Arizona? I’m in California.

Arizona only. The rest of the country was spared.
