Pot Racks Are Hanging Clutter

When you’ve filled up the horizontal spaces and brought in more furniture and filled it up too, then it’s time to go vertical.  Install a pot rack so you can fill it up too!

In the next home, they’ve filled up the living room, filled up the kitchen island, so then installed a pot rack to dry their coffee mugs.

Another home, another pot rack.  Note how it blocks the nice cabinets in the photo.

From a different angle, we can see that the pot rack was not hung over the kitchen counter.  It’s about 2 feet away from the counter.  Would you want to sit underneath that?

And one more angle.  This house clearly has a dishwasher and yet there is a rack of dishes above it.  Please note the pool table in the background.  From the earlier photo, there was a food dish and a water dish for the family cat.

At least the pots and pans match in this home.

I used to have a pot rack. It was the kind that hung on the wall and displayed antique copper pots. Purely decorative. That was about 30 yrs ago when I had a country kitchen.
People are funny - my SIL won’t use her dishwasher because she thinks they use too much water! She will leave the door ajar and use it as a dish drying rack, putting the wet dishes inside. She’s real quirky in other ways too.

I have a dishwasher but still handwash certain items like wine glasses and my All-Clad cookware. They would be ruined if put in the dishwasher.

2nd photo- that would be a gorgeous kitchen after 10 minutes of decluttering. I think they have beautiful cabinets and very expensive granite under all that mess. It actually looks clean and tidy, just very cluttered. As I buyer, I would go for it.

Hanging pots and disco balls have a lot in common. They both worked well in the days of Woodstock and LSD trips, but it’s time to move on.

I will admit that this blog has me seriously considering getting rid of my expensive pot rack. But what is worse, design-wise: a pot rack or ceiling fans? Should both be removed from a house before staging or remodeling?

In Phoenix, buyers want ceiling fans.

Thanks for the info! I’m in the cooler Midwest, so it isn’t as much of a pressing comfort need than a design trend issue. At least two interior designer friends of mine absolutely despise both the racks and fans (they think it looks dust catching and “dated” but not retro, and should be removed as soon as I can get a ladder), but both items can be functional and are popular. I’m still on the fence about it. Photo #1 brought this to mind.

Here in Alabama, most people want ceiling fans, too. Hot plus humid in summer.

Pot racks seem gross to me. All that dust and steam and oil spatters… I guess it’s not so much of a problem if you have a) a decent-sized kitchen and b) a good rangehood, but still. Ever had a good look at the top of the cabinets?

There are many different types and styles of pot racks to fit many varied needs. I live on the East Coast in an urban area loaded with row homes so kitchen space is limited and before installing one I would check with a pot rack site to find out which pot rack would be right for my particular area of organizing.

Pot racks are not made to be the focal point of your kitchen, they’re made to help in organizing your kitchen. To clear space in your cupboards and cabinets.
