Lighting From the Past

Let’s take a look at lighting from decades ago that are still in use today.  Enjoy.

Pole lamp in a Sun City West, Arizona home.  Usually the lamps are attached to the pole.  I’ve not seen one like this before.

Another pole lamp with lights attached.  Sun City West, Arizona.

Sorry, but these are plain ugly.  Sun City West, Arizona.

That lamp with the fat base.  And that table.  That orange chair.  Very retro.  Sun City, Arizona.

Hanging lights at a bathroom’s makeup desk.  Tempe, Arizona home built in 1974.

I really dig these hanging cherry globe lights!  Elkhart, Indiana.

Aside from the fact that all of the above rooms are immaculate, and that 50’s & 60’s retro is making a comeback, I truly believe that none of the decor is intentional. These people have been living like this for as long as I’ve been around, which is a long, long time.
I’m sure one of them has a Chevy Impala in the garage, and I would be curious to know if anyone has a computer.
On the other hand, they still have a turntable (remember those?), which means they still appreciate a good sound system, something the Ipod generation has no concept of.

It’s my mother and father’s house at the Joisey shore!

I agree Maria. The furniture is old, but it all still looks very serviceable and at least the rooms they are in appear to be CLEAN. I find the open-lidded toilet in the last photo to be the grossest thing on display here. (okay… and the burgundy broadloom)

They’re all “period pieces” like antiques. Although I’d really play it up and go all the way if I were doing it. I also like those Conestoga Wagon TV lamps of yesteryear.

I enjoy seeing the Early American/Colonial furnishings that were popular at the same time as those ugly patterned sofas.
I covet the hanging lamps in the first pic.
And I also want those drapes in the 3rd pic. They have survived about 50 years because we invested a lot of money in high-end lined fabric and had them dry-cleaned on a regular basis. See how they are hung ceiling height.

I want the pink sink. I have the tub and the toilet, but wish previous owners had left the sinks alone. My mom had the maple end tables, but never had room for the coffee table. The round globes are making a comeback where I live.

I actually like the 1st picture of the colorful hanging lamps and that turquoise lamp would be cool w/a different shade.

Gloria: Kohler still makes pink, but be prepared to sell your right arm for it. Probably craigslist, too

I am madly in love with that Tempe Arizona makeup desk area from 1974 with the double swag lamps. I wonder if that particular home is original throughout.
