This One Takes the Cake

File this under Now I’ve Seen It All.  The photo’s caption reads “Master bedroom expansion.”  True.  But… They sledgehammered the wall, left a gaping hole, unfinished, and covered it up with a piece of ugly carpet.

Here’s the view from the other side.  What on earth were they smoking?!

Here’s the kitchen.  That’s shelf paper on the kitchen cabinets.

The bathroom shower is in mint condition.  If you are taller than 5 foot, forget washing your hair.

Once upon a time, this was a cute little 1940’s bungalow. Now it is just a mess. Wonder how much structural damage was done with that failed DIY.

Yeah, that’s really bad. I wonder if there are any examples where contact paper would ever look good on cabinets. I’m guessing not! If it were a viable option, then people would use contact paper all the time for these types projects…

The kitchen backsplash is vinyl peel and stick floor tiles.

Just burn the whole house down and start over.

It surprised me that the bedroom wall was brick. An interior wall made of brick? No wonder they say older buildings were built better. In a modern house, that wall would be paper thin. A nail file could take it down. It’s sad to see a solid old house abused like this.

Wonder if the bedroom is an enclosed patio or garage.
Thus the concrete blocks were originally the exterior wall?

Leif, I’ve been following your blog for a while now and often have laughed so hard I almost had tears in my eyes.
But how do you find all these places??!!! We don’t see this kind of presentation very often here — I guess most agents know better (and rather don’t put up any pictures if they look like THAT). You make it seem like everybody in Phoenix lives in a super funky house; surely, that can’t be the case? So, how do you go about finding those? By price? Certain neighborhoods that are more “ugly house” prone?
    Just curious.

It also takes the cake plate, the cake knife and a few extra cup cakes, too boot! WOW!
