Thank you to our reader Jennifer for finding this very unique home for sale in Avon, Connecticut. There’s a lot to see and lots of photos to share. Enjoy.

The seller appears to have an artistic quality, with embellishments throughout the house. The stair balusters are covered in fabric.

The seller added goop to the staircase risers.

There are smears and goop all over the kitchen.

The kitchen, we think.

The breakfast room.

161016avonct05

More goop in the parlor. Even the piano was painted.

Check out the ceiling.

Another bathroom.

At least the curtains aren’t knotted.

A closer look.

161016avonct11

More goop on the door. There’s a lot of sanding required to remove the goop.

161016avonct14

Another look at the staircase.

Let’s look at the bedroom now.

161016avonct09

Gauze for alarm?

161016avonct15

The window panes were painted.

161016avonct16

The dining room.

161016avonct17

Walls and ceilings were touched in every room.

Gauze and effect. How would you remove the gauze and goop from the walls?

….. “where discourses on madness and creativity converge.” (In comments about the works of Vincent Van Gogh–whose art seems to have inspired the decor of this home.)

This leaves me speechless… I can’t even begin to imagine the conversation that ensued after the listing agent got their first look!

Everything looks like it was spackled with molasses, maple syrup and copper puff paint.

Well… at least they had their own unique taste and weren’t afraid to make their house their own!

I normally don’t like the phrase “think of the resale value” because it’s often used by people who are afraid to do things like paint their walls anything but taupe, but in this case, they ruined the resale value. This isn’t a wall colour that few people like, or wood paneling, or a weird light fixture, this is a total gut job. They’re certainly not going to get a decent price for this place, if it even sells at all.

Personally, even though I think that someone should live in a house for a little while before planning any renovations… certain design elements you didn’t think you liked at first might grow on you… but this house is absolutely horrific, and I wouldn’t even want to visit, let alone live there.

This house of splatters and gunk made the Daily Mail.

At $340K, and it would take another $50-100k to clean up the mess.

This was the address of the Fermata Arts Foundation. The house seems to be an art project.

The development of the project can be seen in the portfolio at http://www.synkovhouserepair.com/architecture-and-poetry.html

To quote from the 2nd Portfolio, the stairway is named: “Main sheet of remembrance: there was no storm. It turned into a wind blowing some bubbles.”

The one sentence description of the stairway is “On a breeze of memory we are blown as a leaf to rest upstairs..dreams..quiet. .”

The ode to the stairway starts out:

    “What should I remember,
    What to remember
    Somersaulting everything flying at once
How to forget, what to retell
Or should everything going its course
    Its own order
    Wind, wind picks up everything
    Scatter those leaves from life
This life of ours, always “golden”
I am led along an intricate path to the storage room…”

Each room is named, pictured, and a poem written for it. The portfolio is as unique as the house.

Normally I can comment, but I am totally speechless on this one. Lol on no knotted curtains. I agree they’re tacky.

Did the fellow who mutilated this home once live in a clapped out old school bus commune on Haight and Ashbury in San Francisco back in the ’60? Hippy-dippy brain buzzed burn out. The only saving grace to that home is a demolition squad!

Only something that Liberace could love.

  • 23 PJ // May 2, 2017 at 4:00 pm

How would I remove it? With a bulldozer… I have a friend that would love this house. Yes he’s an artist.
