Scottsdale, Arizona used to tout itself as the West’s Most Western Town.  It’s easy to see why when you look at this Scottsdale home.  Wagon wheel chandelier!!  Old crank telephone.  Cattle ranch brands on the beams.  Kachina doll pillows.  But what’s a boomerang and a Heineken pony keg doing there?

That, my friends, is slump block, a hollow brick that started in the late 60s/early 70s and then became very popular in the Phoenix area in the late 1970s.  Most homes, however, cover up the interior side with drywall (sheet rock) to reduce the transfer of outside heat to the inside.
