Maybe these Phoenix sellers have the right idea. Remove the kitchen cabinet doors so you can see what you have! Brilliant.

Too much stuff on the refrigerator. It’s visually distracting. We’ll deal with the cow collection later.
Sensory overload in this kitchen.

Oh, good grief. Christmas was on full display back in October and earlier in this Peoria, Arizona home. All I want for Christmas are home stagers!
This is a coyote-themed room. Please notice the Wile E. Coyote doll holding a beer can and an American flag. Awesome.
Since the refrigerator doors were completely covered with stuff, the seller had to start taping things to the cabinet doors.
Paddington Bear says, “I’m suffocating from the clutter.”
Paddington, we know what you mean! We’ll be right over with boxes.
Buyers will have butterflies in their stomachs.

Hoarding: Buried Alive TV show on TLC started its new season last Wednesday. A new episode is shown tonight (it features a very dirty kitchen and a home with a rat infestation).
This Phoenix home isn’t quite at that level, but sure to scare most buyers.
They have plenty of toilet paper in the bathroom.
The home office looks well organized.
Oh, look! Another home office!
This bedroom looks inviting. Inviting people to touch the exposed electric wiring.
Lots going on in the kitchen.
By the way, they are selling it as a short sale. I hope the bank recognizes the effort they put into getting the house ready to sell.
The back patio is a great place to entertain.
The back yard is in-tents (intense).

Refrigerator magnets. Clutter on the counter and in the sink. Oven hot pads all in a row.

Let’s help this Lawrence, Kansas seller with staging her home. So many visual distractions.
In the kitchen, let’s remove everything on top of the cabinets, everything on the counter tops, and everything on the island. Then the refrigerator magnets and the spice rack attached to the refrigerator. And then the rooster thingy to the left of the refrigerator. And then the two plants. Plus garbage can.
Let’s concentrate on the left half of this photo. Let’s remove everything next to the kitchen island. And the garbage bags. And the towel on the oven.
Looking at the middle of the photo, let’s remove the cat, the red blanket, the magazine rack, the hand lotion, and all the stuff on the back wall.
Then let’s remove the stuffed animal in the apple bucket, the rugs, the wicker trunk and wicker pouf that serve no purpose in the middle of the room, and everything hanging on the walls. And the umbrellas too. Who needs 6 umbrellas?
For those who are obsessive-compulsive, let’s even up the bedspread. And then remove the rugs, the bucket, the Maxine doll, the shoes, the boots, the vacuum, etc.
Total cost to stage this home: $0.

By including a photo of her Wizard of Oz magnet collection, the seller thought buyers would think she’s cool.

Homes look so much better when refrigerators are cleared off.
Refrigerator magnets and doodads are visually distracting. And sometimes politically polarizing.
In less than 3 minutes, this refrigerator would look clean and tidy. Another few minutes for the counter tops too.
This refrigerator is covered with scribbles and blocks the window. Would Batman approve?

This kitchen will require some cleaning too.
Is the clutter on top of the cabinets necessary?
It’s all in the details.
An easy rule of thumb with kitchen staging is: only one appliance on the counter. And no dishes please. [Poughkeepsie, New York]
