What was once a decent foreclosure home is now damaged by graffiti.

Graffiti scares away real buyers.

Then you’re left with cash investors paying below market price.

This then lowers the price for the neighborhood.

Thanks for nothing.

The punks ought to be shot. What is the point of that…. besides trying to prove to your other white, middle class friends that you have some ’street cred’? Go read a book. Or play outside. Or just stay home and bug your parents.

I used to think that I would consider a house that had been graffiti-ed. Then I decided that I really wouldn’t be comfortable in a neighborhood where this could happen and no one called the police. I am sorry their values were pulled down, but if they had watched their neighborhood and called the cops, their value would still be up.

I doubt those hooligans really care about the prices of homes where they live.

Why is this allowed to happen? Seriously! Doesn’t the bank care enough to properly secure things?! What do the banks get out of this - can anyone tell me this?!

When it gets bought, it lowers the comps, but when it gets sold again, hopefully it raises them back up, pretty healthily.

Yeah, I don’t get it about the banks either.

What’s the big deal about the tagging? Seriously, a little paint and some sandpaper is all you need to bring it up to scratch. You people are too fussy, no offense.

It’s not fussiness - gang graffiti shows that gang members feel a connection to the house. Now, as a gang member drives by, which house is more likely to catch their attention - the one they’ve partied in, or the one they’ve never noticed before? Think they’ve had a chance to notice any security flaws while partying there? Do YOU want to guess whether anyone has hidden a gun or anything else on the property?

Forget to close a window? Leave your toys on the lawn? Finally get that nice car you’ve been wanting? Do YOU want gang members paying ANY extra attention to your home or family? I don’t.
