Twelve Back Splash Options

October 30th, 2017 · 7 Comments

It is popular nowadays to install a back splash in a kitchen. Personally, I think it looks too busy and visually distracting and unnecessary. Let’s look at twelve different types of back splashes, starting with circles.

Thin horizontal multi-color glass pieces.

Micro-thin pieces.

Thin vertical multi-color glass pieces.

Metal.

Random pattern six-inch ceramic tile.

Multi-size ceramic tile, almost a Versailles pattern.

Quilt pattern.

Brick steps.

Diagonal.

Floor tile on the wall.

Pastel mosaic with tile shards. [Thank you to our reader KG for sending us this photo from Hallstead, Pennsylvania]

If you’ve ever had to clean a painted wall over a kitchen counter then you know why people install a back-splash, but I like a more sedate, plain back-splash…

I was beginning to think I was the only one who felt that way about back splashes with such obvious patterns. People who like them really like them, but I wouldn’t want to build, renovate or buy with that style. Last weekend Houzz had a good article about options for back splashes.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks that. I looked and looked at back splash ideas, and ended up just leaving it painted. It looks so nice and clean.

Agree it’s too busy. The tiny rectangular glass pieces seem to be all the rage right now and I think it’s going to look very dated, very soon.

Goodness. Every last one of those backsplash patterns are pretty ugly. Wow.

Can’t begin to understand why the one kitchen has a weird round mirror thingy over the sink. Sad to say, most of these kitchens are much nicer than any kitchen I’ve ever had. I think most of them are very pretty.
