Hogwarts Legacy sales have been smashing records in Europe. Apparently, it’s one of the biggest game launches in the region since Red Dead Redemption 2. We say “one of” the biggest game launches because FIFA and Call of Duty continue to reign supreme. Nevertheless, this is quite a feat for Hogwarts Legacy considering it’s been shrouded in controversy.
Hogwarts Legacy sales leave Elden Ring in the dust
Now that digital data is in, GamesIndustry.biz’s Christopher Dring confirmed hat Hogwarts Legacy has indeed left Elden Ring in the dust. In its opening week, Hogwarts Legacy trumped Elden Ring’s launch records by 56 percent.
For context, the FromSoftware game was a commercial success right out of the gate. In the U.S., Elden Ring was 2022’s second best-selling game after Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and had sold 17.5 million units by September 2022. Considering that Hogwarts Legacy has yet to release on the PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, we can only imagine how many more records the game has yet to break.
The digital data is in. Hogwarts Legacy’s opening week was 56% bigger across Europe than Elden Ring. It’s the biggest game launch outside of FIFA & Call of Duty since Red Dead Redemption 2.
It backs up the theory that gamers are gravitating towards the big brands at the moment
