Stray has become the newest entry in the coveted PlayStation Editor’s Choice 2022 lineup. It joins a short but extinguished list of highly-rated games on PlayStation platforms that are featured regularly in the PlayStation Store under the Collections tab. The process of being selected as an Editor’s Choice game is rather mysterious, as it is showcase of PlayStation editors’ favorite titles, though it’s likely a combination of high user ratings and critic scores (and possibly a very high number of meowing). Being a PlayStation console exclusive also helps of course.

Only thirteen other games have made it into the Editor’s Choice lineup this year thus far. With a solid mix of both triple-A and indie games, here they are in chronological order of release date on PS4 and/or PS5:
- Dying Light 2 Stay Human – February 4, 2024
- Olli Olli World – February 8, 2024
- Sifu – February 8, 2024
- Horizon Forbidden West – February 18, 2024
- Elden Ring – February 25, 2024
- Gran Turismo 7 – March 4, 2024
- Moss: Book 2 – March 31, 2024
- The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe – April 27, 2024
- Unpacking – May 10, 2024
- The Quarry – June 10, 2024
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge – June 16, 2024
- Fall Guys – June 21, 2024
- Stray – July 19, 2024
The award season is still a few months away, but this can be used as a short list of early contenders for nominations. But let’s be honest here: Elden Ring is going to win many, many categories.
The list of Editor’s Choice games for 2024 only had 17 entries, so this year’s lineup is on track to meet or beat that number. As for what other games might join the list in the remainder of 2024, some candidates will be Two Point Campus, Saints Row, The Last of Us Part 1, Overwatch 2, Gotham Knights, God of War: Ragnarok, and the Callisto Protocol.
It’s not too much of a surprise to see Stray slip into the lineup, as it has surpassed God of War as far as Steam user ratings are concerned and broke the number of concurrent Day One player numbers on Steam for any Annapurna Interactive game.
In other news, some gamers are upset over GTA 6 having a female protagonist, and this handy website sorts PS Plus Tier games by trophy difficulty and completion time.
