The recent State of Play was a misfire in the eyes of PlayStation fans, but as it turns out that might be due to a plan for a PlayStation Showcase before E3 2024, according to a new report from Jeff Grubb.
Big game reveals saved for pre-E3 2024 PlayStation Showcase
Jeff Grubb spoke in his Game Mess podcast about the plan Sony has to show off games in a pre-E3 2024 showcase that was supposedly delayed from last year.
Grubb stated that “they [Sony] are saving the good stuff for the PlayStation Showcase that’s going to happen before E3,” before going on to reveal that the showcase was ‘”supposed to happen last fall” but that Sony “kept pushing it back because their developers weren’t ready.” This means that fans could see games such as Spider-Man 2 at that show rather than at any State of Play event.

Grubb also spoke in detail about the real reason that the State of Play presentations happen, saying that they’re “an obligation’ and are “Sony meeting the obligations to their co-marketing partners.” This basically means that a publisher makes a deal with Sony to have their game shown off on a bigger stage,in the hopes of getting more eyes on their games.
In other State of Play news, Baldurs Gate 3 is coming to PS5, and Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League got an extended gameplay demo at the show.
