It looks like Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness might be coming to the PS Plus Premium catalog soon. An entry for the PSP tactical RPG recently appeared on the Japanese PlayStation Store. However, neither Sony nor NIS have made a release announcement yet.
PSP Disgaea remake may be coming to PS Plus Premium
A Japanese PlayStation Store page appeared showing Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness for PSP would be coming to PS4 and PS5. Unfortunately, its listed release date is June 29. 2024, which is obviously not correct.
Disgaea wouldn’t be the first PS Classic with a bit of mystery surrounding it. Both Ridge Racer 2 and Dino Crisis were prominently featured during the run-up to the launch of PS Plus Premium, and they still haven’t been released. There’s also the question of whether the game will be added to the service outside of Japan. Since there are region-exclusive titles on PS Plus Premium, there’s no guarantee we’ll get Disgaea in the West.
One thing in favor of a US release of Disgaea is the fact that Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance is already available for PS Plus Extra and Premium customers. NIS and Sony have had a close relationship over the years, and it’d make sense to bring more of its games to the service.
Unfortunately, if Disgaea gets released, it looks like it’ll lose some functionality. The (roughly) translated store description reads:
This software converts the PSP™ (PlayStation® Portable) version to PlayStation® 4 and PlayStation® 5, and adds new features. It may be different from the PSP™ (PlayStation® Portable) version, and some functions may not work properly. This software does not support the PSP™ (PlayStation® Portable) version of peripherals, so some functions may not be available.
Additionally, it says “Offline play support” on the page, which means multiplayer options are likely gone. However, it does describe new features like uprendering, rewind, quick save, and custom video filters, which is a decent trade.
In other news, the No Man’s Sky Endurance update improves freighters, and you can buy BioWare’s Anthem for a penny.
