The Last of Us Part 1 Firefly Edition sold out almost immediately, which is a bummer for fans that wanted to pre-order. Unfortunately, like almost every other popular video game product in the last three years, it seems like eBay scalpers scooped up many. However, it looks like they may be the ones getting the raw end of the deal this time.
Poor The Last of Us Part 1 Firefly Edition eBay sales might mean things are turning around with scalping
According to eBay’s sold listings for The Last of Us Part 1 Firefly Edition, only one copy has been purchased in the last ten days. A steady trickle of TLOU: Remastered and Part 2 have exchanged hands. However, aside from the 48 hours after the Firefly Edition was announced, sales have almost completely flatlined.
If you tried to order a PS5 or a collector’s edition game lately, then you’re aware of just how much of an effect scalpers have on the market. They add zero value to society and are part of the grotesque “hustler culture” that has sprung up over the past decade. Unfortunately, the only qualifier to become one is to be semi-coherent and buy a shopping bot. At the height of the COVID-19 epidemic, many of us were willing to pay a premium just to have something to look forward to. These people preyed on that to line their pockets.
However, better enforcement of eBay’s policies and general apathy around the Firefly Edition may have at least made scalping it a little less lucrative. The service may be flooded with them when we get closer to launch, but at least people aren’t snapping them up for 4.5 times the retail value right now.
