Armored Core 6 Won’t Be a Soulsborne, Multiplayer Confirmed

The surprise announcement of Armored Core 6 Fires of Rubicon during The Game Awards 2024 came along with theories and some concerns that it would turn into a Soulsborne. Elden Ring won the Game of the Year award, after all. But FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki has confirmed in an interview that Armored Core 6 will not focus on “Soulsborne gameplay.” A multiplayer versus mode, though, is in development.

Armored Core 6 multiplayer will feature customized mechs

Speaking with IGN, Miyazaki wanted to clarify that Armored Core 6 would focus primarily on what made the series special in the first place:

No, we’ve not been making a conscious effort to try to direct it towards more Soulsborne type gameplay. First of all, let me just make that clear.

The essential direction of [Armored Core VI] was to go back and take a good look at the core concept of Armored Core and what made that series special.

Specifically, that “special” part means the in-depth customization for assembling a mech. FromSoftware plans on using the resources they’ve received from all those Soulsborne games into the graphical details and modeling of every mech in the game.

While Miyazaki made his directorial debut for Armored Core 4, Armored Core 6 will be directed by Masaru Yamamura, who is both a Dark Souls veteran and Sekiro’s lead designer. Yamamura then confirmed that an Armored Core 6 multiplayer versus mode is planned, allowing players to take their custom mech and battle with other players. However, details for this mode will come at a later date, as they are focusing on the main single-player story mode first.
