God of War Ragnarok 120 FPS and 40 FPS Modes Confirmed

by Ali Mahmud

When the latest God of War game launches on PS5 next month, it will come with a variety of graphic modes that mean players are not simply locked into low frame rates. Those with TVs that have HDMI 2.1 inputs can output God of War Ragnarok in 120 FPS or 40 FPS modes depending on whether resolution or performance is the preference.

The God of War Ragnarok Graphic Modes

God of War Ragnarok will launch with four graphics modes, two for those with a TV capable of accepting HDMI 2.1 signals (including the mode that targets 120 FPS) and two for those that can’t. According to Press Start AU, this is how the PS5 graphics modes perform:

  • Favour Resolution – 4K/30FPS Locked
  • Favour Performance – 60 FPS Locked
  • Favour Resolution (High Frame Rate On) – 4K/40FPS Locked (HDMI 2.1 required)
  • Favour Performance  (High Frame Rate On) – Targeting 120 FPS (HDMI 2.1 required)

The good news is that these modes will be available from launch, unlike other games where the high performance modes have been patched in after launch. Our God of War Ragnarok preview described how even in the standard performance mode, “the game still looks fantastic in this mode, with the image looking crisp on my 65″ 4K TV”. Be aware that the game does come with a rather large file size, though, so those who have pre-ordered the title will want to look at preloading, especially if dealing with the PS4’s 118GB file size.
